A Better Way To Manage Overgrown Land
A Better Way To Manage Overgrown Land
Mary Bowen founded Browsing Green Goats with a clear mission: help landowners, municipalities, schools, parks, cemeteries, and organizations manage invasive vegetation without relying on herbicides or heavy machinery.
For more than 16 years, Browsing Green Goats has provided targeted grazing services throughout Maryland and Virginia, helping clients restore overgrown land through environmentally responsible vegetation management.
This work is especially valuable for environmentally sensitive land, creek banks, steep slopes, riparian areas, cemeteries, public spaces, and properties where traditional equipment may cause damage or create safety concerns.
What Inspired this move?
I’m Mary, and my love for the environment has guided me on this remarkable path. I have always believed in the power of nature’s mechanisms to heal and revive itself. Recognizing the detrimental impact of human interventions, such as heavy machinery or chemical herbicides, I sought an alternative approach that aligns with the principles of harmony and balance.
Enter goats and sheep—the eco-friendly, four-legged landscapers. These incredible creatures possess a unique ability to munch through various types of vegetation that humans struggle to control effectively. Their selective browsing habits allow them to target invasive plant species while leaving native plants unharmed, encouraging the restoration of natural diversity.

Browsing Green Goats has experience serving municipalities, public spaces, schools, parks, cemeteries, and environmentally sensitive restoration sites.
Our work is well suited for creek banks, steep slopes, riparian corridors, historic properties, and areas where herbicides or heavy machinery may not be the best solution.
Targeted grazing supports eco-friendly land restoration by reducing overgrowth while working in harmony with the land.
Committed To Responsible Land Stewardship
Browsing Green Goats believes land management should work with nature, not against it.
Our targeted grazing approach helps control invasive species, reduce vegetation overgrowth, protect sensitive ecosystems, and support long-term environmental health.
We partner with land stewards who want sustainable vegetation management that reflects their values and protects the land for future generations.

With their help, I have established a sustainable practice that not only mitigates the detrimental effects of invasive plants but also supports the local economy and promotes animal welfare. I partner with federal state and local government, homeowners, and business owners in this regard. I also ensure animals are well cared for while performing their vital roles as “eco-goats” and “eco-sheep.”
Beyond vegetation control, I am committed to educating communities about the importance of preserving our ecosystems. Through workshops, presentations, and hands-on experiences, I aim to inspire individuals of all ages to become stewards of the environment. Together, we can cultivate a sense of responsibility and foster a deep connection with the natural world.

As an environmentalist, I understand the urgency of our current ecological challenges. Climate change, habitat loss, and biodiversity decline threaten the delicate balance of life on our planet. Through my work, I strive to create sustainable solutions that empower communities to take action, one pasture at a time.
Join me on this extraordinary journey where goats and sheep serve as ambassadors for nature’s resilience. Together, we can restore harmony to our landscapes, cultivate environmental awareness, and pave the way for a brighter, greener future.
We evaluate your needs, answer your questions, and determine if goats would be a good choice.
Hiring goats will not give you that fresh cut grass looks when they are done. It will look like the unwanted vegetation has been munched on, not cut with a mower. If you desire that totally finished look, we can provide you with assistance once the goats are done.
The goats must be kept in fencing for their safety, they cannot be tied to a post or blocks. We provide the temporary electric fencing, shelter, water trough, and manpower; all you provide is the unwanted vegetation – we do the rest.
Are you a Government agency looking for fire breaks and reducing vegetation for fire fuels? We can help.
